OUR BREWSTER: Apiwe
Our Brewster, Apiwe Nxusani-Mawela, from Butterworth in the Eastern Cape, proudly holds a BSc Hons Microbiology (UP) and a Master Brewer Diploma (IBD). She is the first person in South Africa to complete a National Diploma in clear fermented beverages (SAQA accredited), and the first black person in South Africa to be approved as a Brewing Training Provider by the IBD. Apiwe gained her experience at SABMiller after joining the company through their graduate recruitment program. She completed an 18 month brewing traineeship program and held various positions within the company, including Project Brewer, Brand Brewer, Brewing Area Manager and Craft Brewer. Apiwe left SABMiller to pursue her career as a Craft Brewer and joined our team in 2013, not only as our Brewmaster, but also as Shareholder of the micro-brewery. “Brewing is not only my career, but also my passion, my hobby... For me, craft brewing is about perfecting the balance between the science and the art. We love our craft!”, boasts Apiwe.
OUR ASSISTANT BREWER: Ben
Sifundo "Ben" Khuzwayo joined Brewhogs early 2014 from the Hogshead group. He is currently our assistant brewer/maintenance controller and team supervisor. Ben is passionate about brewing and all the Brewhogs brands, and his future plans are to grow within the company and sharpen his brewing skills.
Shane has now also joined the Brewhogs team as Sales and Marketing Manager. He is currently finishing off his BCom Marketing degree at Varsity College and will join the Brewhogs team as a full time employee from November. He is young & passionate, & very eager to learn all the aspects of the brewery, & put his skills and knowledge into promoting and growing the Brewhogs product range. Shane previously worked at Hogshead as barman & has been selling & promoting the Brewhogs beer for some time now, & has become very familiar with the taste of each of the beers on tap. His favourite Brewhogs is Nº14 - half Nº1 & half Nº4...
